SHILLONG: The issue as to who has the authority to register the land in the border areas figured in the State Assembly on Wednesday.
In reply to a question by UDP’s Jemino Mawthoh, the deputy chief minister in-charge of revenue and disaster management, RC Laloo, said as of now, there was no plan to reduce the amount of registration of land in the border areas of the state.
He said the government is following the Indian Registration Act to register land.
However, P N Syiem (Congress), who is also the chief executive member of KHADC, wanted to know whether the Indian Registration Act was applicable in the Sixth Schedule areas.
The deputy chief minister, however, said he would have to examine the matter with the law department.
HSPDP’s Ardent Basaiawmoit said the government should state clearly which authority could register land as there were conflicting authorities.
