Government distributes smart phones to students

SHILLONG: To realise the vision of transforming India into a digitally empowered society, the State government conducted a training programme on digital literacy through RIIT, Jowai and RIIT, Nongstoin for the women of the rural areas of the region as part of the Digital India programme.
To encourage women to attend the programme, the government also distributed smart phones to students who had successfully passed their exams based on the training programme on December 19 at Don Bosco Youth Centre in the city.
Joshua Lyngdoh, Senior Executive, State Coordinators, CSC along with Ravi Roy, Distinct Manager, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd and RIIT official were present during the programme.
The government has also taken another initiative to digitally empower the rural people through a programme called PMGDISHA.
This programme is available in all CSCs in the state in which people can enroll in training centres like RIIT.
The training programme is free of cost and successful beneficiaries will also be awarded with certificates from NIOS. The enrollment process has already started in all CSCs.
