SHILLONG: Taking an oblique jibe, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma has asserted that the ruling Congress party this time is trying to facilitate less number of businessmen into its fold.
“Let businessman go to parties which think about their self-centric business people,” Sangma told reporters adding that Congress party wants to dissuade people look at politics as means to serve their selfish interests.
Sangma claimed that the party wanted to promote entrepreneurship and this was one of the most important agenda of the Congress.
He informed that the party was likely to announce the name of poll candidates in two phases and likely some of the names might be announced before the New year.
Asserting that the party will contest the elections on all 60 seats, Sangma said that it was natural that some people would leave the party while some others would join its ranks.
On being asked if the turncoats would come back to the party, Sangma reiterated that they would like the natural process to continue.
Sangma also maintained that the Congress was getting very promising leaders who are showing keen interest to offer themselves as potential candidates.
“It a silver lining and a new bench mark for future,” he said even as he denied the reports that Congress is finding it tough to find promising candidate in Pynursula
“We have a very good special doctor from there,” he said while admitting that there is a lot of pressure on the party as far as selection of candidates was concerned in several areas like Laskein and Shangpung constituency
