SHILLONG: The formation of the much awaited Lokayukta and border talks with Assam may not materialise this year with not much time left for the Congress-led MUA-II government to act.
An official source said the government could not make much headway in the formation of the Lokayukta and holding of border talks.
The official added that though the chairperson of the Lokayukta, a retired judge from Assam, was selected, he got some other assignment in the neighbouring state and following this the government could not find a suitable chairperson for the post.
“However, we are still trying to speed up the appointment,” the official said.
Regarding the border talks, the official said there was no response from the Assam government despite several reminders to hold the chief secretary level talks either in September or November.
With Meghalaya busy in poll preparation, the talks are likely to be held only after the elections, the official added.
