SHILLONG: The President of the Hills State People Democratic, Ardent Basaiawmoit, has expressed concern over the growing corruption in the state and vowed to remove all corrupt officials if elected to power.
Speaking at a programme on Thursday, Basaiawmoit made a clarion call to fight against corruption.
Alleging that corrupt people are the ones responsible for the financial mess in the state, Basaiawmoit, who is also an MLA from Nongkrem, said the HSPDP-UDP alliance will provide a clean government if elected to power.
Basaiawmoit said corrupt officials are allowing corruption to infect various levels in the government resulting in low availability of funds for developmental work and causes inconvenience to people.
“HSPDP will not tolerate corruption at any level of governance. We will not be afraid to pull out all the corrupt people responsible for all the financial mess in the state,” he said.
According to Basaiawmoit, as per the pre-poll alliance with UDP, HSPDP will contest 10 seats reserved for the party and the party will also put up candidates in another nine free-to-contest seats in the Khasi-Jaintia region.
The HSPDP president also distributed work orders worth Rs 2.5 lakh each under the Intensive Sports and Youth Development Programme and the Development of Traditional Folk Music.
