SHILLONG: The city and other parts of the state experienced severe cold on Wednesday after temperature dropped following hail and rain.
While the hailing was not much in the city, high altitude areas like Upper Shillong witnessed heavy hailstones that turned roads turned into snow treks.
After the rain, people were seen coming out on streets wrapped in layers of warm clothes as the Regional Metrological Centre read the maximum temperature on January 3 at 13.8°C and the minimum at 5.4°C.
The forecast for Shillong in the next few days shows temperature between 5°C and 16-17°C.
The report of the Regional Metrological Centre says that moderate to dense fog is likely to occur at isolated pockets over Meghalaya other northeastern states like Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Thursday and Friday.
