SHILLONG: With an eye to contest the forthcoming elections in Meghalaya, the central observer from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rakesh Sinha, was in the city to assess the party’s organisational strength and possibilities to contest Assembly elections.

Sinha, who is also the advisor to the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal said that the political affairs committee (PAC) of AAP was authorised to make the poll decisions while also observing that the AAP in Meghalaya was growing as district and block level committees were already formed.

“As an observer for the party in Meghalaya, I will submit the report to the PAC of the party and I am hopeful that the party will take a considerate decision that will benefit the AAP and the people of the state,” he told reporters on Thursday.

“I am sure that the AAP will go from strength to strength in Meghalaya and will become a potent force in Meghalaya because AAP is a state oriented party as where ever it goes it becomes a state party,” he said, adding that the party will not nurture national aspirations but will serve the people of the state.

He maintained that there were aspiring candidates and the call was upto the PAC of the AAP to make decisions regarding the Assembly elections.

“I am sure that the number of candidates will swell. There are many prospective candidates who are waiting in the wings. The exact number of candidates will be known in a few days,” he added.
