SHILLONG: In a bid to generate funds to develop the scenic Namdong A in the West Jaintia Hills, to increase tourist footfall and to showcase the customs and traditions of the Jaintias, the village is organising a cultural-cum-music festival this month, informed Daman Lyngdoh, headman of Namdong A, at a press conference here on Thursday.
Lyngdoh said the village is crisscrossed by different rivers and dotted with waterfalls, one among which is the unique ‘Thwai Ksih’ famous for its shape resembling the map of India.
Jimmy Raul Kharmuti, a Jaintia film director who is also the programme coordinator of FARM North East, informed that the funds generated from the festival will enable the villagers to repair roads and footpaths.
FARM–NE has declared Namdong A as one of the cleanest villages in the North East.
A community park is also in the pipeline. The entry fee is Rs 500 for a day’s visit and Rs 1000 for two days.
