JOWAI: The Meghalaya Comercial Trucks Owners’ Association (MCTOA) Jaintia Hills unit has strongly opposed the decision of the government to ban plying of heavy vehicles from December 21 till December 26 due to Christmas festival.

“We request the government to ban plying of trucks only on Saturday and Sunday (Dec 24, 25),” MCTOA president Balen Thubru said. He also stated that the decision taken by the government to ban plying of heavy vehicles for an entire week will hit their businesses.

“We has to pay our loans and other expenses and if the government ban plying of trucks our business will be affected badly,” Thubru said.

“Whenever there is religious festival in the state the road is closed for heavy vehicles and the vehicle owners have to endure great loss on account of this,” he added.
