Meanwhile, defending his action, Chairman of the Assembly Privileges Committee, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, said the decision was obligatory as the attitude of the traffic police was very unpleasant.

“I politely requested the traffic cop to allow me to park the vehicle there for only 10 minutes or so, but the response that I got was negative and that too in a very impolite way,” Lyngdoh said.

He stated that if every available space is converted into a no-parking zone, then it will be of great inconvenience to the public.

“There should be an alternative for this but all that I heard from the traffic cop was, ‘I don’t know, park anywhere’. That is unacceptable; a traffic police should be people-friendly and not scare them away,” Lyngdoh added.

He mentioned that he had come all the way from Upper Shillong and the space where he parked his car was right at the corner near St. Anthony’s School where the traffic police booth is situated, causing no obstruction to the other passing vehicles and the time was 6 pm, not during school hours or office hours.
