SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma laid the foundation stone for an RCC bridge at Adokgre in East Garo Hills on Saturday.
The bridge on the Ildek river, which has been delayed for 20 years, “will bring about changes in region” when complete, Sangma said.
“Development of a region follows construction of proper roads, bridges and communication (system),” the chief minister added.
The Congress in the state has been criticised by its rivals, especially BJP, for not doing enough to improve roads in Garo Hills.
Sangma mentioned stable law and order in the once militancy-hit region as one of the reasons for its gradual development and put emphasis on the power of democracy.
