SHILLONG: The acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Pa’iem Ainam Manik Syiem, has alleged that there was a shortage of Rs 4 lakh in the treasury of the Syiem of Hima Mylliem.
“On the day I took charge, I found that there was shortage of money,” he told reporters on Tuesday.
Ainam took charge 20 days after the arrest of his predecessor, Ricky Nelson Syiem.
Elaborating on this, Myntri Midnight Kharlukhi said, “We found that the amount of money (mentioned) in the cashbook and the cash in hand do not tally.” Another Myntri of the Hima Mylliem, RF Kharbuki, said they would write to the Executive Committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) demanding that Ricky surrender the money and the vehicle of the Hima Mylliem.
Taking note of the Hima Mylliem’s financial crisis, Ainam said his goal was to pursue transparency and accountability.
Ainam also informed that there was an order to recall his appointment as the acting Syiem. He claimed that “there are outside forces” pushing for the recall order for vested interests and urged the KHADC Executive Committee to stay the order.
Kharbuki said Ricky’s arrest has sullied the office of the Hima Mylliem. “He (Ricky) has broken all records as there had never been a Syiem who was arrested.”
