SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has released a documentary titled, “Ki ain ban iada ia ki hok trai Ri” (Laws that will protect the rights of the indigenous people) at Shillong Press Club on Wednesday.
General secretary of HYC, Robert Kharjahrin said that the two hours long documentary dwelt on the 14-point charter demands of the organisation which include Inner Line Permit (ILP), residential permit, work permit, prohibition and detection of Benami transaction, border dispute among others.
“The documentary will make people understand the demands of the organisation. The documentary has also been uploaded on the YouTube. It will be circulated on WhatsApp and other social networking sites also,” he said.
The release of the documentary is part of the Save Hynniewtrep Mission and campaign against Congress which was launched by the organization last year and this year, respectively.
He added that the organization would also release short videos which would seek to educate the people to wisely elect their candidates.
Commenting on the rising tension regarding influx of immigrants to the state, Kharjahrin said, “Cheap agents of different political parties should not help immigrants in getting EPIC card only to increase the vote banks for politicians.”
Stop railway project
Speaking on the resumption of work of Tetelia-Byrnihat railway project, Kharjahrin said that sans proper mechanism to check influx, the arrival of railways in the state was a signal of danger to the indigenous communities.
“We demand from the state government to stop the railway project if there is no mechanisms in place to check influx. Railway is the cheapest means of transport which makes it easy for people to come from anywhere in the country and settle down in the state,” he added.
