MAWKYRWAT: Former minister Prestone Tynsong has warned people of Mawkyrwat against the women’s empowerment schemes under which the chief minister was distributing Rs 5,000 to “trap” beneficiaries.
“The scheme started in 2012 and after the election in 2013, I encouraged people of Pynursla to apply for it. About 250 women applied. But in 2014, the bank sent letters to the beneficiaries demanding repay of the loan,” Tynsong told the gathering at an NPP rally here on Friday.
The NPP candidate from Pynursla asked people to spread the message.
NPP candidate from Mawkyrwat Rowell Lyngdoh, who was one of the Congress MLAs and resigned from the party to join NPP, accused the chief minister of blocking many developmental projects in Mawkyrwat.
“The 100-bed hospital in Mawkyrwat that was started before the one in Ampati is still pending because the chief minister did not release the money,” Lyngdoh said, adding that the same happened to the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), district court and the two-lane road from Mawphlang to Mawkyrwat.
Tynsong said BJP was right in terming Mukul Sangma the most corrupt chief minister. To drive his point home, he cited the example of the state government’s initiative to stat Agar plantation in 2015 for an investment of Rs 80-90 crore.
“It was a waste of money. As the forest minister I went to Dehradun to meet scientists who informed that in Kerala, the government invested crores of rupees but oil was not produced. I raised this issue during the CLP meeting but he (Sangma) said do not believe Indian scientists. I will bring scientists from Singapore,” said Tynsong.
