SHILLONG: Despite some party leaders projecting former Congress legislator and NPP new entrant Prestone Tynsong as the chief ministerial candidate, the NPP leadership said the matter will be decided by the elected MLAs.
NPP state president WR Kharlukhi said on Friday that the party leadership had made it clear that the chief minister will come from the region which will have maximum number of legislators.
“If NPP gets maximum legislators from Khasi Hills region, the chief minister will be from  Khasi Hills whereas if the Garo Hills region secures more seats, the MLAs will elect the leader from that region,” Kharlukhi said.
According to the party leader, the campaign is in full swing in various parts of the state.
NPP has already released the names of 50 candidates.
“We are planning to release the names of a few more candidates,” Kharlukhi said.
