SHILLONG: National Youth Day was observed at Pdengshnong Smit on January 12 at Basic School, Smit with discussions on the rights, duties and responsibilities of youth in the society as well as women empowerment.

Speaking as the chief guest, Egenstar Kurkalang focused on the rights of the youth and their role in nation building.

He referred to the famous quotes of Swami Vivekananda who said, “Arise, awake and stop not until the goal is reach.”

Expressing concern on the spurt of substance abuse by youth and militancy as there are avenues for employment, Kurkalang slammed the state government for not extending support or even to utilise the schemes properly.
