TURA: A former district programme manager of the state government’s DRDA who was one of the ticket aspirants from the National People’s Party to contest the upcoming state elections from Mahendraganj constituency, has resigned.
The former government official, Robert S Sangma, had applied for the NPP ticket to take on sitting Congress legislator and chief minister Mukul Sangma’s wife, Dikkanchi D Shira.
However, with the NPP deciding to allocate the Mahendraganj party ticket to Sanjay A Sangma, the other aspirant has decided to step down and contest as an Independent.
The party candidate Sanjay A Sangma is the brother-in-law of NPP party chief and Tura MP Conrad K Sangma.
Annoyed by the party decision, droves of supporters of Robert Sangma gathered at his residence and decided to field him as an Independent from Mahendraganj.
