TURA: Residents of Rangsel village in North Garo Hills are unhappy about Tura MP Conrad Sangma’s unfulfilled promise to set up a mobile phone tower there.
The villagers said they had met Sangma at his residence in Tura on December 25 last year and requested him to erect a Jio tower in the area. Sangma had said 200 Jio towers were being set up across Garo Hills and Rangsel, which is 5km from district headquarters Resubelpara, would also be provided with one.
“The promise made during our meeting has not materialised. Rangsel is only 5km away from Resubelpara. But the absence of mobile network has made our life miserable. It is a shame for the public representatives,” the villagers said.
Another promise made by the Tura MP during the meeting was repairing the road that connects the PWD main road and Raja Apal weekly market via Rangsel village under the PMGSY Scheme, “which has also failed to take off”, informed the villagers.
The villagers said earlier appeals were made and memoranda served to the deputy commissioner, the local MLA, the MDC and also Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to look into their demands. “But sadly no initiative has been taken till date,” they added.
