Political parties briefed on monitoring election expenses

AMPATI:  The representatives of political parties were given a briefing and training on monitoring of election expenditure ahead of Assembly elections at Ampati on Saturday evening. The meeting was attended by representatives of political parties in South-West Garo Hills district, including BJP, INC, NPP and UDP.
During the meeting, the political parties were briefed about the instructions of the Election Commission of India and legal provisions for election for monitoring election expenditure were explained to them.  They were also informed about the various machineries and mechanisms in place for monitoring of their election expenses, like the Expenditure Observer, Assistant Expenditure Observer, Flying Squads, Static Surveillance Teams, Video Surveillance Teams, Accounting Teams and others.
 The meeting also discussed rates of various items that would be used during the electioneering and the political parties were asked to give their suggestions on the rate charts provided to them before the official notification of rates.
The meeting led by District Election Officer (DEO) & Deputy Commissioner, C.V.D Diengdoh was also attended by ADC (Election) H.D.B. Sangma, police and treasury officials among others.
The political parties were also briefed about the mandatory obtaining of NOCs and permissions before holding election meetings and rallies and were explained about Suvidha – the online application system for obtaining such permissions.
Later, the District Level Standing Committee for strict compliance of Model Code of Conduct was also constituted for the district of South West Garo Hills with DEO & Deputy Commissioner as the Chairman, ADC (Election) as Convener and representatives of recognized and registered political parties as members.
