SHILLONG: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) candidate from Nartiang, Draison Kharshiing dismissed speculations about him shifting allegiance to BJP by maintaining that he is still with the PDF.
This comes in the wake of a rumour that he may have joined the saffron party after he was seen in a picture along with state BJP leader, David Kharsati and BJP in charge of West Jaintia Hills, Khraw Basaiawmoit.
Kharshiing said, “No, it is not so. It was an informal meeting with friends who are in the BJP. Although they have requested me to join the BJP party, I have not agreed to do so. I am still with the PDF.”
Although he maintained that he is still with the PDF, he however said that he has not sought the opinion of the supporters on his decision to join the BJP as he cannot make electoral decisions alone.
Meanwhile, Basaiawmoit admitted that the party has requested Kharshiing to join BJP but pointed out that it is up to his free will.
He stated that he has handed over documents that highlight on the functioning of the BJP (as seen in the picture) to Kharshiing.
PDF president, Ivanlumlang Marbaniang said that he has not received any information on Kharshiing joining BJP.
