TURA: In another major blow to the Congress party in North Garo Hills, a total of 42 prominent DCC, BCC and PCC leaders under Resubelpara Constituency resigned recently citing dictatorial functioning of the local MLA.

Resubelpara Constituency is currently held by former Meghalaya Chief Minister, Salseng C Marak who defeated National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, Timothy D Shira in the last Assembly elections in 2013.

President and General Secretary of the District Congress Committee (DCC) in North Garo Hills, Chisal R Sangma alleged that their raised voices were not heard by the MLA whether with regard to development or party functioning which was why the constituency had failed to develop.

The workers along with thousands of their supporters have decided to support Independent candidate and first timer, Braize Adoniza G Momin in the elections.

“We want to choose a young, energetic, visionary and dynamic leader for the development of the area. Our motto is ‘change for change’ and that is why we have left the party and decided to support Momin,” they said.

Among those that resigned included presidents, secretaries and other leaders of the district, block and primary committees.
