Cong likely to name poll candidates by Jan 26

SHILLONG: The Congress party is most likely to announce the list of its poll candidates before the Republic Day.

Speaking to media persons here after the meetings of the Pradesh Election Committee and Manifesto committee, Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma said that the State congress had conveyed its desire to the central leadership to complete the exercise before the Republic Day.

Sangma pointed out that the party at the state level had completed the exercise and the candidates had been more or less been frozen and the names would now be presented before the Central Screening Committee and the same will be announced with the approval of the AICC president.

According to Sangma, there are one or two constituencies where the names of the candidates will be finalised within the next 24-48hours.

Responding to query about the four independent MLAs who wants to join Congress, Sangma said that the party had examined their   candidature and few of them would appear in the in the list of Congress party’s candidates.

The meeting also discussed about the probability of the Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma’s plans to contest the upcoming polls from Songsak as well as Ampati constituency.
