SHILLONG: The decision to shift the office of Wapung Community and Rural Development (C&RD) block from Wapung village to Lumshnong has irked locals who have asked the state government to revoke the notification in this regard.
Residents from several villages under the C&RD block in East Jaintia Hills met Governor Ganga Prasad on Wednesday to flag their grievances.
Prasad assured them that he would try to find ways to bring the block office back to Wapung.
Addressing reporters here, MH Dkhar, a representative of the delegation of villagers, said that several villages and NGOs have opposed the shifting of the C&RD block to Lumshnong, which is over 40 km from Wapung.
“We want development in our village so we want the government to restore the C&RD block in the same site where the inauguration took place,” Dkhar said.
The delegation wants rollback of the January 9 notification on shifting of the block office and has threatened to put pressure on the government.
The block office was shifted from Wapung to Lumshnong eight months after its inauguration on April 22 last year. Former C&RD Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, former MLAs of Khliehriat and Sutnga-Saipung Justine Dkhar and Hopeful Bamon, respectively, were present at the inaugural function.
