SHILLONG: Pynehborlang Mukhim, UDP candidate from Mawryngkneng constituency, exuded oodles of confidence when he asserted that it was not difficult for anyone to defeat a sitting legislator in the Assembly polls.
Interacting with the media here on Thursday, Mukhim said, “There is no difficulty in defeating a candidate, whether he is a sitting legislator or a new candidate. It all depends on the supporters, the ideology of the party concerned and the vision of its leadership.”
Expressing confidence that he would win his seat in the upcoming polls, Mukhim said it was not a difficult task to fight the elections against a sitting MLA or a political heavyweight.
Mawryngkneng constituency is presently represented by Independent MLA David Nongrum who is likely to join the Congress.
The UDP candidate said that the issue of money power is a real threat that is subverting the democratic process. But it will impact only about 20 per cent of the voters while the rest will vote for change, he said.
“As a constituency, we have suffered a lot and there is even a need to uplift education in the constituency. We definitely need a college since students after their matriculation exam have to go outside for studies and it adds to their financial burden,” he told reporters.
However, Mukhim said he felt the health scenario in his constituency was still dismal and that as a result many people have to undergo extreme suffering.
