SHILLONG: Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma has termed the National People’s Party (NPP) as an agent of BJP in the state.
Kicking off his election campaign in Garo Hills from Songsak, his second assembly seat, chief minister accused the Congress’s main rival National People’s Party as an agent of BJP in the state.
It may be mentioned that Mukul Sangma is the second political leader from the state to contest from two Assembly seats after Hill State People’s Democratic Party leader (late) Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, had successfully contested from two Assembly seats – the erstwhile Pariong (now Mawthadraishan) and Nongstoin in the 1988 elections.
‘I have been a legislator for five consecutive terms and chief minister of Meghalaya. My decision to contest from Songsak is purely to bring equitable development in the state,’ Sangma added.
Sangma also alleged that the NPP is being funded by BJP to contest the assembly elections.
Coming down heavily on NPP for their remarks against him, the chief minister said, ‘So far whatever foundation has been laid by me in Meghalaya was not enough, we have to do more foundation in the state to bring about development. I have made a humble beginning to accelerate growth and development of the state’.
