Nagaland SCERT to promote vocational career options

KOHIMA: The Nagaland State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is all out to promote vocational career options for school and college students by conducting free career guidance and counseling across the state.

Sources said for more effective implementation of this objective, the SCERT had signed a Memorendum of Understanding (MoU) on September 10, 2010 with six professional/technical institutions from across the country through Gateway Career Consultancy, Dimapur.

The MoU is under PPP mode and is for three years, which may be extended depending on the success of the collaboration.

The accomplishment till date through this collaboration was highlighted on Wednesday by Vipralhou Kesiezie, Director SCERT.

He informed the SCERT and Gateway Career Consultancy has provided free career guidance and counselling to 24 schools covering 4710 students in 2010. It has extended to 27 schools and 4910 students in 2011 across six districts of Nagaland.

A handout by the SCERT stated that the objectives of the MoU also include promoting job-oriented professional and technical courses, providing accurate and authentic career information to students of Nagaland about various technical and professional courses and creating a State Level Career Information Centre at SCERT, Nagaland.
