London, Feb 2 (IANS) World football governing body FIFA President Gianni Infantino wants to put a check on the amount of money being paid to agents.

“I am very concerned about the huge amount of money that is flowing out of the football industry,” he was quoted as saying by the BBC on Thursday.

“These increasingly larger transactions are often not done in a clean, open manner and raise a lot of questions about potential misuse of funds,” he added.

Speaking days after the January transfer deadline day, Infantino’s concern was met by figures which showed that English teams had paid a highest-ever total of 174 million pound to agents last season. Infantino said: “We have to tackle this issue — the curtains must be open.”

The winter window, meanwhile, saw English Premier League sides spend £430m, another record.
