SHILLONG: President of East Khasi Hills District Congress Committee, Kennedy Khyriem, is hopeful that Congress will win seven seats out of 10 in East Khasi Hills even as he maintained that Congress would come back to power.

“We target to win 10 seats and if not, we hope to win 7 seats,” he said.

Asked on the desertion of Congress rebels to other parties, Khyriem downplayed the desertion by asserting that others will fill the vacant places left by the desertion.

“They have left but others will come. We have nothing against them if they leave. There are some who do not even leave but have to be expelled. It is good that they left,” he said.

He added that Congress was targeting to win 32 seats out of total 60 seats and when reminded that the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma targeted 38 seats for Congress, Khyriem said, “I said 32 because I am not well aware about the situation in Garo Hills. Maybe the Chief Minister added another 6 from Garo Hills.”
