SHILLONG: Former Congress legislator and NPP candidate from Pynursla Prestone Tynsong on Friday blamed Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for not listening to the grievances of the rebel legislators who had demanded a change of leadership.
While answering a question on the resentment of Congress legislators during his recent visit to Shillong, Rahul had supported the chief minister by saying that he had brought development to the state.
Rahul had also blamed anti-incumbency for the exodus of rebel legislators.
However, Tynsong said that the main reason for the exodus was that the legislators had demanded removal of Mukul Sangma but the AICC leaders, including Rahul, were not bothered.
“We had apprised Rahul Gandhi and others of our grievances but they did not give ear to our demand,” Tynsong said after filing nominations.
Absolute majority
Tynsong said the party will secure absolute majority in the February 27 polls to form the next government.
“There are several allegations against NPP from various quarters and the people will give the correct verdict on February 27 and this will prove who is right and (who is) wrong,” Tynsong said.
CM candidate
To a query as to whether he is projected as the chief ministerial candidate, Tynsong said the elected legislators will decide on the chief minister and hence nobody is projected as the CM candidate prior to the polls.
He said that there are no differences like Khasi Hills and Garo Hills region when it comes to selection of CM candidate as it will be up to the MLAs to decide on the leader irrespective of the regions.
