SHILLONG: An organisation based in South West Khasi Hills zone, United Achik Youth Federation (UAYF) has written to the Director of Health Service (DHS MI) for the appointment of doctor, nurses, chowkidar and peon etc., in health centers under Ranikor Block.

In a petition to the DHS MI, the president Sanggra Marak called for appointment of doctor, nurses and other assistants for Konjoy Primary Health Center, Gilligora Sub-Center and Maheskola sub-center for the benefits and welfare of the health centers and its adjoining areas under the Ranikor Block.

He stated that the Konjoy PHC had no doctor, staff and other staff even though the PHC was established in 1998 and remained non-operational till date.

The PHC was inaugurated by MM Danggo in the month of January 2018.

Similarly, he added that the condition of Gilligora Sub-Center and Maheskola sub-center remain non-functional as there was no doctor and nurse to run the health centers. The situation has deprived the people of medical assistance and for health treatment.

In search of medical assistance, the people travel to Baghmara hospital, Tura and Ranikor. Marak informed that there were instances where a number of women, children and elderly sick persons had lost their lives while they were travelling from their respective villages to Tura, Baghmara and Ranikor.

In this connection, the UAYF has urged the DHS MI to take up the matter with higher authorities and the state government to appoint doctor, nurses and other staff.
