TURA: A school teacher who was kidnapped by a gang of Bangladeshi criminals from the border village of Dimapara last month has been released unharmed late Monday night.
The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teacher Ethwilton D Sangma was forcibly taken away from his home in the dead of night by a mixed gang of Bangladeshi criminals who crossed over the international border on January 21st.
Despite widespread protests and demands for his release the gang refused to let him off until their demands for a ransom were met.
Police were unable to rescue the victim as the gang had taken him across the international border and kept him confined on foreign soil.
The criminals released the teacher at around 10 PM on Monday at the Indo-Bangla border near Jatrakona under Gasuapara police station in South Garo Hills.
The failure of the BSF guarding the border had also come for much criticism due to the rising cases of border crimes being perpetrated by criminals who frequently cross the international border without being spotted by the border sentinels.
