SHILLONG: In a desperate attempt to woo voters ahead of the crucial Assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party has released a chargesheet against the Congress.
The 38-page chargesheet titled ’15 years of loot, 15 years of destruction’ was released by Union Tourism Minister KJ Alphons here on Thursday.
It highlights the failures of the Congress-led government in the state in the past decade, apart from the various scams that surfaced in different sectors like education, health and infrastructure.
The chargesheet also mentions issues such as the boundary dispute, child labour, corruption, militancy and power crisis in order to highlight the failures of the Congress regime as well as the unfulfilled promises made by the party in 2013.
Speaking to the media, Alphons alleged that the Congress has not fulfilled any of the promises made ahead of the 2013 Assembly polls.
While castigating Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Alphons accused him of taking credit for what the BJP government at the Centre has done for the development of the state.
Interestingly, the chargesheet makes no mention of the medicine scam and M-Tab distribution scam which surfaced when BJP leader AL Hek was the minister of those two departments in the Congress-led government.
However, BJP candidate from Pynthorumkhrah, Hek brushed aside all allegations claiming that the scams did not take place during his tenure as the health and IT minister in the Mukul government.
“These scams happened before me and during my tenure there was no scam at all,” he claimed.
The chargesheet mentions the education scam in Meghalaya lambasting Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh as the main accused.
However, it doesn’t mention the other MLAs who featured on the list culpable of recommending candidates for the post of teachers.
Hek, whose name featured on the list of MLAs involved in the education scam, said, “As a public representative, it is my job to help people. But the authority lies with the concerned minister whether to accept or reject recommendations.”
