SHILLONG: The former East Khasi Hills District (EKHD) vice-president of National People’s Party (NPP) Harkin Warjri and several of his supporters joined the Congress party from Mawkynrew Block after he had tendered his resignation from the NPP.

Speaking at a gathering organised at Congress Bhavan on Friday, Warjri said, “NPP and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) are having close links with the BJP.”

He contended that both parties cannot form the government which will eventually make them turn to the BJP to help form the government since they are against the Congress.

Criticizing the BJP, Warjri pointed to Paul Msiza, the President of the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) who was denied visa, he alleged, underlined the BJP’s anti-Christian attitude.

“This is a sign that as a Christian I should wake up,” he added.

Later, speaking to reporters, he said NPP is not a party for the poor and termed the party as “No Parking Party” for the poor.

Warjri slammed the former MLA of Mawkynrew, Remington Pyngrope for not raising issues in the Assembly even after 10 years of being elected.

Meanwhile, All India Congress Committee (AICC) coordinator, Neeta D’Souza said that the people have taken a wise decision at the right time which will make a lot of differences to the elections.

She went on to add that the country is going through tough times with the BJP-led central government increasing the prices of commodities.

Pushing for unity in the Congress, D’Souza said, “Congress is family and we will always be united.”
