TURA: Tura MP Conrad Sangma has castigated the Mukul Sangma-led government for failing to implement the central rural roads scheme in Garo Hills.
Speaking at a rally at Gokul in Bajengdoba constituency, from where the National People’s Party (NPP) is fielding Pongseng Marak, Conrad shared his experience of visiting Kharkutta and the “difficult” journey to Dongkongsi and its adjoining villages. About 300 villages do not have proper roads as the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana was not implemented.
“The Congress has failed to ensure transparency in implementing different central schemes and people have suffered a lot. We have to end the Congress rule forever and choose a party that would work to create a new Meghalaya,” he said as he claimed that the NPP wave was getting stronger in most of the constituencies.
Earlier, senior BJP leaders like KJ Alphons and Nalin Kohli had denounced the Congress-led government in Meghalaya for neglecting infrastructure development, especially improving road connectivity, in Garo Hills.
“As the chief minister of Meghalaya, Mukul has focused only on Ampati but the fact remains that he could not even develop Ampati (Mukul’s home turf). It is time that we wake up and ensure the end of the Congress once for all,” Conrad said as he predicted Mukul’s poll debacle in both Ampati and Songsak.
The NPP national president ridiculed the Congress for resorting to false propaganda about NPP’s links with the BJP and threat to minorities instead of talking on relevant issues.
“NPP has always raised its pitch for the indigenous people and the minorities. We have been working with the centre to ensure that development reaches not just in Meghalaya but the entire North East,” he said as he harped on the ideology of late Purno A Sangma, the founder of the party.
Conrad addressed several rallies in Bajengdoba on Saturday where he reiterated that the Congress was nearing its end and NPP would form the government with a vision of inclusive growth.
The leader also welcomed around 600 disgruntled Congress workers into the NPP fold.
