Political rivalry turns violent in WKH; NPP blamed

JOWAI: Political rivalry has taken a violent turn in Sutnga-Saipung constituency with Congress supporters being attacked thrice in the last three days allegedly by supporters of NPP.
Sources said around 1 am on Thursday, a vehicle with Meghalaya registration was attacked by a group of miscreants at Moo Pala village. The windshield of the car, which is owned by Sturdiman Synnah of Sutnga village, was damaged. Synnah is a supporter of Congress candidate Shitlang Pale.
The miscreants came in a vehicle that belonged to a man identified as M Nongtdu.
Again on Saturday midnight, another vehicle owned by Behopeful Suting was damaged by a group of miscreants who were holding an NPP flag.
On the same night around 2 am, two vehicles belonging to a C Nongtdu were damaged by a group of men who came in a vehicle that played election music in support of Hopeful Bamon, the NPP candidate. The vehicles were parked outside Nongtdu’s residence.
Two more vehicles owned by F Sutnga became the target of stones and beer bottles thrown by NPP supporters, the sources added.
All the victims are supporters of Pale. Separate FIRs have been lodged with the Khliehriat police.
