Cold intensifies in Kashmir

Srinagar: Cold further intensified in the Kashmir valley where there would be no immediate relief for next 24 hours when the minimum temperature will drop further.

However, the maximum will remain above normal though the sky will be cloudy.

A Met department spokesman said there would be no large change in the weather in Jammu and Kashmir during the next two days.

The nights will remain cold. However, the day temperature will remain above normal though the sky would be partly cloudy with haze, he added.

In summer capital, Srinagar, the minimum will drop to minus 4 degree tomorrow, two degree below normal.

The minimum here dropped to minus 3.3 degree, two notches less than yesterday when it was minus 1.2 degree.

Lowest so far during this winter was minus 4.3 degree recorded on December 17. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg recorded minus 11.6 degree, an improvement of 0.4 degree against yesterday when it was minus 12 degree, lowest of the winter so far. Similarly health resort of Pahalgam, base camp of Holy Amarnath cave in south Kashmir witnessed an improvement of about one degree on Saturday. Against Friday’s minus 8.2 degree, lowest so far, it was minus 7.4 degree on Saturday morning. (PTI)
