NONGPOH: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who is often blamed by his former Cabinet colleagues and rivals for being dictatorial, has now turned the gun on BJP saying people were fed up with its dictatorial rule at the Centre.
During his speech at a rally at Maikhuli village under Jirang constituency in Ri Bhoi, Sangma attacked NPP and regional parties in the state saying “the allies of BJP” would not come to power as the people of Meghalaya were fed up with the dictatorial rule of BJP.
He castigated the saffron party for being silent on the persecutions of minorities and Christians in the country. The chief minister blamed BJP for instigating religious persecutions and not taking any action to protect the rights of minorities in a secular country like India.
Addressing a gathering of thousands, Sangma made an appeal to the people of Jirang to vote for the Congress as it is the only ‘party concerned with the interest of common people’.
He also assured the people that the Congress will the form new government after the election as the people of the state still believe in the party to address the welfare of the people.
“In the past five years of Congress ruling in the State, there are numerous programme being implemented by Congress which has benefited the people of the state,” said the chief minister, adding that the people of the state who has not even cast their vote in their lifetime, will now go and vote for the Congress party.
He reiterated the Congress’s comeback with absolute majority.
Earlier, thousands of people gathered at the ground with the hope to have a glimpse of the chief minister’s chopper.
Celestine Lyngdoh, MPCC president, and Congress leaders from Assam, including MP Gaurav Gogoi, and Jury Sharma Bordoloi, APCC Secretary, also addressed the rally.
