SHILLONG: Former Union minister and Congress leader Anand Sharma has alleged that there is “match fixing” between the National People’s Party (NPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while the United Democratic Party (UDP) is a side player in the state.
Speaking to the media, he said the BJP has ventured into North-East to fracture the polity of the region while alleging that Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was once the main target of the BJP, is now the saffron party’s best man in the region.
Slamming the regional parties, Sharma said parties which, despite being a part of the NEDA, claim to have no connection with the BJP are insulting the voters of the state even as he alleged that those parties are being funded by the BJP.
Citing an example to substantiate his point, the Congress leader said Conrad Sangma was supported by the BJP in the Tura by-polls and the NPP and BJP have formed a government in Manipur which shows they are working in tandem.
)”NPP is a repeated and habitual offender,” he claimed.
Commenting on the BJP’s vision document, he said the BJP is in the habit of promising the moon and selling dreams while it is betraying the people all the while.
Charging the Prime Minister of destroying jobs, Sharma said the BJP’s vision document lacks vision. Meanwhile, he also alleged that in the last four years the Union government has adopted a step motherly attitude towards Meghalaya and no central support was forthcoming for the state. It was the UPA government that set up major institutes like IIM Shillong and NEIGRIHMS in Meghalaya, he said.
Sharma, moreover, said that a Manipur-like situation would not arise in Meghalaya where the BJP formed the government through deceit.
“I don’t think we will need an alliance to form a government in the state,” he asserted.
