SHILLONG: The Kharkutta unit of the National People’s Party has alleged that a bridge in the constituency in North Garo Hills is being constructed without government sanction.
In a letter to the returning officer in Kharkutta, the NPP unit’s joint secretary, George Sangma pointed out that there was no sanction for the bridge, which will connect Rudo village and Lower Jambal, and a community hall. He also said none of the projects were on the pending list.
“As per the model code of conduct, none of the schemes can proceed at the time of the election,” he added. The NPP unit also alleged that money was being distributed secretly under the garb of the Women’s Economic Empowerment through Financial Inclusion and Entrepreneurship scheme, which is also violation of the model code.Sangma urged the returning officer to look into the matter and ensure a corruption-free voting.
