SHILLONG: The All India Mahila Congress chief said on Sunday Conrad Sangma, whose National People’s Party is part of the NDA as well as the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), “is a puppet” of the BJP and the RSS.
Addressing a press conference, Congress’s Sushmita Dev said, “He (Conrad) should first go to the nearest church and put his hand on the Bible and swear to the people of Meghalaya that he will not tie up with the BJP at any level.”
She argued that voting for Conrad Sangma’s party is allowing RSS culture, ideology and mindset to come into Meghalaya. “If people vote for NPP, BJP will be running it because NPP is clearly a part of NEDA,” she said.
“Conrad is simply a puppet in the hands of the RSS and BJP,” she added.
NEDA was formed by the BJP on May 24, 2016, along with several regional political parties in the North East.
Napkin politics
Dev continued her tirade against BJP by saying the promise to distribute free napkins won’t earn the party seats.
“Mukul Sangmaji will be the next chief minister and I will make sure that he gives free sanitary napkins to all women of Meghalaya in the remotest of areas and that is my assurance,” she said with “100 per cent confidence”.
She stated that there is least gender disparity in education in the state and termed it as a huge achievement. “Meghalaya has got the highest ratio of female enrolment in primary schools. It is the third best performance in the country when it comes to enrolment of girls. Meghalaya has doubled the number of girls attending higher secondary schools. These are big achievements,” she added.
According to her, the achievements may augur well for the Congress.
