SHILLONG: Two-and-half-year-old boy, suffering from dysentery and high fever, died even before reaching a city hospital, thanks to non-availability of doctor at the primary health centre at Tyrsad, East Khasi Hills, coupled with heavy traffic jam on Friday night.
The child, who hails from Pyndensohsaw near Mawynram in East Khasi Hills, died at Rilbong Point in the city after getting stuck in traffic jam for more than an hour.
Informing this, Section Syiemlieh, father of the child, said had his child reached the hospital on time he would have still been alive.
“We got stuck in the traffic jam for nearly an hour right from 101 Area up to Rilbong Point,” Syiemlieh said.
He said initially the child was brought to Tyrsad PHC.
“After finding no doctor in the PHC, we decided to take him to Shillong,” he said.
“I do not know how many people have faced similar consequences due to non-availability of doctor in the health centres,” Syiemlieh added.
