SHILLONG: Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday   termed BJP as anti-North Eastern saying the BJP-led Centre Government took away the special industrial investment policy for the North Eastern states.

Speaking to media persons after addressing a public meeting here on Sunday, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the BJP also took away the special category status for the North Eastern state.

“We all know their stand is against Christians, minorities and tribal,” he said, adding that BJP also did away with the 90:10 pattern funding for the North Eastern states.

Earlier, while addressing a public meeting for the South Shillong candidates, Manas Chaudhuri, at Rilbong on Sunday, he said that the he would have appreciated the initiative of the  Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to send his Ministers in North East every week had those visits meant for development of the region.

“But I Know his instructions to his Ministers was to strengthen the RSS and form their units in the North Eastern states,” Azad said while addressing the crowd.

According to Azad, the visits of the Ministers to North East was not out of love for the region but to inject poison in the most peace-loving part of the country.

Asserting that Meghalaya has progressed a lot, he added that in the year 2014, Meghalaya’s growth rate was  the highest and the unemployment was the lowest.

Accusing the BJP of packaging and re-packaging the schemes and programmes of the UPA Government, he alleged that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was the master of repackaging.

Stating that the people of the region have their own eating habits and way of life, he cautioned that the BJP might even enter people’s kitchen and check refrigerators in people’s house to see what meat has been cooked in their house

“ They are checking the fridge of Muslims in UP  to see what meat has been cooked ,” he  said.
