SHILLONG: East Shillong UDP candidate Bindo M. Lanong has alleged that there are some candidates who have been distributing money from door to door up till Sunday.
Lanong said that the office of the CEO should look into the matter adding that he can provide proof that money is being distributed in his area.
“I can even pin point who gave the money and who received the money,” said Lanong.
When asked why he did not file a complaint to the CEO or the Deputy Commissioner, Lanong said that in the year 2013, a candidate had issued a cheque to one person and a complaint was filed but no action was taken.
He also alleged that some of his supporters were threatened in Keating Road and that they had even filed a police complaint but to no avail.
Lanong also stated that politicians should not talk about Article 371 unless they know the basics of it.
“They should not talk about something which they don’t understand especially about legal and constitutional matters,” he said.
Stating that Article 371 is already applicable in Meghalaya, Lanong said, “Meghalaya has many things like IIM Shillong which do not necessarily have to be under Article 371.”
Lanong concluded by saying that Meghalaya is not going to lose anything if Article 371 is implemented and that politicians should not mislead the people.
The article 371 (c) says about “ an equitable arrangement providing adequate facilities for technical education and vocational training, and adequate opportunities for employment in service under the control of the State Government”
