SHILLONG: India and Vietnam have agreed to explore prospects of expanding cooperation and boost investment two key sectors -health and education.
Taking to media persons here on Monday, the Vice chairman of the Vietnam’s Parliamentary committee for Social Affairs Dr Nguyen Vantien said, “We want to have a strong and committed relationship with India and particularly with Meghalaya.”
The Vietnamese parliamentary delegation, which arrived here on Monday, held discussion with Governor RS Mooshahary and the State Legislative Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope.
According to Dr Vantien, Vietnam would like to study different policies of Indian government pertaining to health and education sectors.
Dr Vantien said, “Vietnam is keen to promote private Indian investors as it would help in improving economic condition of our people.”
In a bid to help Vietnam economically, top corporate houses of India namely Ranbaxy and Tata have already started their ventures there in a big way, Dr Vantien said adding “at least thirty percent of the medicines are being imported from India to Vietnam at a cheaper price.”
Dr Vantien also said that India and Vietnam can also tie up to explore possibilities in tourism sector and in the bid to boost tourism sector, a direct flight between Delhi and Hanoi would become operational from July.
Earlier, executive secretary of Indian Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development Manmohan Sharma expressed concern over rapid growth of population in Meghalaya.
