KOHIMA: The Konyak community has objected to the ‘Ministry of Information and Publicity'(MIP) of GPRN/NSCN ‘demeaning’ their leaders directly and the organisations indirectly.

In a rejoinder to MIP GPRN/NSCN’s press statement published in local dailies recently, Konyak Union (KU) General Secretary Tongang Konyak said the community took strong exception to the ‘baseless accusation’ against its members and leaders Pohwang Konyak and Khoiwang Konyak.

Asserting that KU had ‘no hand or say’ in the appointment or termination of ‘any national worker’ as it was not under its ‘purview’, the union asserted that the accusation of character assassination, responsibility for the attack on the c-in-c’s camp were ‘preposterous’ and did not warrant any comment.

The KU said the meeting in Chen Wetnyu on December 7 resolved to work for ‘peace among the factions’.

The KU and Konyak Students Union (KSU) had sought clarification from the MIP as to why the community and organization leaders were targeted and why ENPO and the demand for statehood was dragged into what was ‘clearly a problem between the rank and file of the factions’.

This implied an agenda to derail the statehood demand process, the KU alleged.

While stating that KU and ENPO stood for ‘peace and welfare’, the rejoinder said the ‘accusation’ was a setback to the goodwill of Konyaks who believed in mutual respect and dialogue’ to resolve any issue. It also said that KU and ENPO leaders were approved by the people and whatever ‘decision’ taken by them was ‘not arbitrary or whimsical’ but taken after thorough ‘deliberation’ among its members, advisers and units.
