SHILLONG: The vote-on-account budget session of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has been deferred to March 20-23.
KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) PN Syiem raised a point of order proposing to defer the session as most MDCs who contested the Assembly elections, were absent.
“Most of the MDCs are contesting the election and results will be declared on March 3. It will be problematic for them even on March 5 and 6 to attend the session. Even today, there is very less attendance. What if we adjourn the session to March 20-23? By then it is understood that the government will be formed,” he said. The chairman of the KHADC, LG Nongsiej, sought the consent of the House in which MDC Nongkrem and NPP candidate for the Assembly elections HS Shylla and leader of the opposition Manstudy Nongrem supported the move.
Later, speaking to reporters, Syiem said that March 20 will be a better option for the MDCs.
Informing that the session was scheduled for the second week of February, Syiem said it would not be right to hold the elections at a time when most of the MDCs are candidates.
“They (the MDCs) will use the floor of the house as election propaganda which is not good,” he added. Syiem said the vote on account will be passed for April, May and June while the full budget will be passed in June.
