Rs 149 crore released for free school uniforms to Assam students

GUWAHATI: The Finance Department of Assam has released Rs 149 crore for distribution of free school uniforms to 37 lakh students studying in studying Lower Primary and Upper Primary Schools in the state. The free distribution of school uniforms which was stalled in the year 2014-15, has resumed in the current year after the Central government has agreed to provide the fund after much persuasion by the incumbent state government.

The state education and finance minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma informed that an amount of Rs 400 would be incurred per uniform and the scheme would continue in coming years too.
