SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma has called for timely completion and proper utlisation of funds for the Government projects in the state.
Speaking to media persons after the first cabinet meeting of the newly-installed Government, Conrad Sangma said that the state was facing challenge when it came to execution of projects.
“There is support from different agencies from the Centre to help developmental process in the state but I think it requires a bit of more committed efforts at the state level to ensure that utilisation is done in a proper manner and projects are completed on time,” Sangma said.
During the first ever cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary also briefed the Ministers on different issues of the states besides the schemes and programmes in the state.
Sangma informed that the cabinet meeting also discussed about the upcoming budget and he even held discussions with the Finance department to understand the financial position of the state.
According to Sangma, discussions have started for the exercise on the budget and necessary details pertaining to the budget is being worked out.
When asked if the much hyped Integrated Basin Development Livelihood Programme of the previous Government would be continued, Sangma said that the Government would be positive in its thinking and they are here not to criticise anybody.
“If there is something good which the past Government has done, we will look into and try to improve on it,” he said
Sangma also maintained it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that if any initiative is good, it is continued and if there is fault with anything, it should be changed and if there is anything bad, it should be improved.
Meanwhile, formulation of the common minimum programme of the government will take some time as the Government will form a committee from all parties and try to bring into one document since each political party has its own identity and ideology.
