NONGSTOIN: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People Nongkhnum Circle recently has taken steps to promote tourism in West Khasi Hills through cleaning drive and doing painting to beautify the Weinia view point.

The cleaning drive was participated by more than 30 members of the FKJGP Nongkhnum Circle led by Overshilan Sangriang.

Speaking to the media, O Sangriang said that the Nongkhnum island which is the second biggest island next to Majuli island in Assam has been left behind by the tourist department in the district. “Due to bad conditions of the road, most of the tourist spots in West Khasi Hills district have become useless.”He added that the district is blessed with many beautiful tourists spots but it is unfortunate that the state government through the Department of Tourism has turned a blind eye to these areas.“We urge the state government to help developing these areas, as these spots will bring lot of income to the state,” said O Sangriang. He also mentioned that again due to the bad condition of road on way to Nongkhnum and Weinnia falls, the number of tourists visiting the place is decreasing. Therefore the FKJGP has to take initiative to promote and beautify the Nongkhnum and Weinnia view point.
