SHILLONG: ‘Music helps individuals to explore life in a deeper way’, former Union Minister and South Tura MLA Agatha Sangma said during the first anniversary celebration of Radio Mirchi 91.1 Shillong in the city on Saturday.
Sangma congratulated the radio station on its first milestone and lauded it for disseminating ideas and awareness on different issues related to the society with RJ Nicky playing a vital role in spreading the importance of cleanliness and hazards of indiscriminate dumping of garbage.
“Music is crucial for emotional intelligence in a way since people are usually taught to score good marks and to make money,” Sangma said.
According to her, the yeoman work of the radio station encourages youths to get involved in awareness programmes and make a difference.
Mirchi Shillong is the 50th station of the network and the first English station that plays 70 percent English and 30 percent Hindi songs. And in Shillong the playlist promises a unique combination of the international chartbusters and the most recent hand-picked Bollywood hits.
The station also holds discussions on topics that are relevant to the youth of today and also entertaining them with celeb chats, comedy and infotainment.
The station started with an activity ‘Mirchi Synsar Awards’ on World Environment Day where listeners are asked to send in pictures of the dirtiest markets in town.
The station’s monthly activities on special days in the calendar like Friendship Day, International Youth Day, Teachers Day, Christmas, New Year and World Radio Day are also popular. It also frequently features celebrity interviews.
